Several middle school youth along with some adults worked hard doing some landscaping at Demen’s Landing in downtown St. Petersburg this morning for the annual “Carefest” event. Thank you to all those that came out. We had a great time and got a lot accomplished.
Once again, we will be landscaping to beautify our wonderful downtown waterfront park as part of a citywide effort to give back to our local community. Last year we worked on the playground area just south of Northshore Pool. First we cleaned out area and then spread new sand across the playground area. We look forward to another project this year on September 24th from 8 am to 1 pm somewhere around Straub Park. Please plan on coming to join us! You can let us know you plan on attending using the Facebook event invitation here.
The move-up parties for the Middle School and High School youth have been planned. The High School party is a Boating and BBQ event at Pastor Dave’s home. This will be on Sunday, August 21st at 5:30. For those on Facebook, please RSVP here. For the Middle School youth, we are having a pool party at the Stroud’s home on Sunday, August 28th at 4:00 pm. Please RSVP here. While you are RSVPing, please be sure to click on the “Like” button for the LCC Youth Group page so you will receive notifications when we post new things there.
We finished up our last day with some pool time after breakfast. Then it was off to packing up our stuff and loading the vans. We did some cabin photos before our closing worship. Some of the parents arrived and joined us for worship as well. The worship was amazing with songs, a recap of our Bible lessons for the week, and the closing episode of “Diago, the Brazilian Explorer” where Diago learned that Jesus is with us always — even when we don’t think he’s there. Then it was off to lunch and the long good-bye’s.

Now it’s time to start going thru all the video we took and see if I can assemble something fun.
Thanks for following our adventurous week!
Another day that has kept me so busy that I haven’t had time to sit down and write about all that is happening here. We had a wonderful day and the weather really worked out well. Our only hiccup was that we could hear thunder in the distance this evening and even though the weather radar showed that it probably wasn’t coming this way, we had to change the luau plans to an indoor game night. We hope this will allow extra pool time tomorrow after breakfast. Lots of fun activities all day long with today’s bible lesson around the story of Zacheus and recognizing when Jesus comes into our lives through others.

We’re looking forward to tomorrow’s half day and closing worship. I understand that we will see a few parents for the closing and lunch. For the rest, we look forward to seeing you sometime between 3 and 5, depending on when we leave Luther Springs.
Lots happening today. Just a quick note and link to the photos before I head down to the lake to take some photos of the kids canoeing. The boys are just now heading to the archery range as well.

We started the day off with some Breakfast Pizza (who knew there was something called breakfast pizza that wasn’t yesterday’s leftover pizza). It was very good! Worship was once again in one of the outdoor chapel areas down towards the lake. We learned our theme today is “Jesus Protects Us”. We learned more songs at worship as well. Our morning activity was the pool, once again. For lunch we had chicken nuggets, very cheezy “Mac and Cheese” and steamed broccoli. For dessert, of course, the youth had birthday cake to celebrate Mrs Schlenker’s birthday. One small detail, she wasn’t there to enjoy it with them. Mark, Bambi, Kaden and myself went to Gainesville to celebrate Bambi’s birthday. I was invited to join a couple of the groups for a hike and their Bible Study time. We did this down by the lake.

Plus, Alonah loves her family and misses them very much. She is looking forward to seeing them Friday. Kaitlin wants to say “Hi” to her family as well.
By the way, Alonah, Kaitlin and Chloe helped with today’s message and are here right now.
A moment of calm has just occurred here in the main dinning hall and meeting room as the youth have just left for Camp Fire and Vespers. It has been a fun filled day. There were times that weather was threatening to move in, but no rain. Canoeing was postponed until tomorrow because of some lightning in the area, but there was plenty of other activities to take it’s place. Some pool time this morning was quite refreshing and we look forward to more of that. Today, one of the groups invited me to join them for their Bible study time and it was quite a treat to help field some deep theological questions about church history and what we believe about heaven and “that other place” as the kids called it.

We made it to Luther Springs at 5:30 – only thirty minutes behind schedule. There were a couple of traffic situations along the way, but it wasn’t bad. We checked in and had a wonderful spegetti dinner. Looks like we will be fed well this week. The kids met their councilors and settled into their cabins after dinner. Then there was bible study in their groups followed by desert and a closing campfire. Then it was off to bed. The kids were exhausted and were asking to go to bed so I think it will be quickly quiet in the cabins. I have some photos to upload but that will have to wait until morning. I can’t get to their wireless here in our rooms – just my 3G on the iPad.
More tomorrow.
Erik
